Starbuck's new "I'm a greedy pig" trenta size

There's a new size at Starbucks – the trenta – 31 oz to be exact. According to this graphic, the trenta is about 1 oz more than the average stomach capacity (but 1 oz less than the Big Gulp). Enjoy!

  1. Currently in NYC, the standard size for a large iced coffee is 32 oz. We notice things like this when Starbucks does it because it gets press and begins to spark up debate on overconsumption and obesity. But they've been operating at sizes "below standard" for over a decade. Same controversy about 15 years ago when they introduced the Venti, but folks adopted that size very quickly (I worked for the big bad coffee co. when it was introduced). Once again, we see the power of brand in action. Most people probably wouldn't notice if the bodega down the street decided to super-size their offerings, and it certainly wouldn't raise such a hullabaloo.

My guess is that by midsummer, when the temp is pushing 100° and the humidity at around 80% that you'll see some of the very people currently criticizing the up-size toting their Trentas, happy that they've got an extra 7 ounces (the Venti cold cup is actually 24 oz) of ice-cold refreshment. Society, man!
